NR Zoning
Elevations
The first floor minimum elevation of a house shall be eighteen (18) inches above the curb line at the high side and the maximum driveway elevation shall be 12 percent (12%) from the flag (top) of the curb to the threshold of the garage door Per City Ordinance 15-1-2(f).
Curbs, Gutters & Sidewalks
All curb, gutter and sidewalks have been inspected and accepted by the City prior to accepting the infrastructure improvements in the subdivision. Any curb, gutter and/or sidewalks that are damaged during construction will be the responsibility of the permit holder to replace in kind prior to the issuance of the certificate of occupancy. We strongly recommend that you inspect the curb, gutter and sidewalk for any cracks prior to starting construction. In the event that you discover any deficiencies you must report them to the Building Inspection Department prior to starting any construction.
Curb Openings
The curb cut can be made by removing and replacing the entire curb and gutter section or using a horizontal saw cut to meet design specifications. Designate this on the curb opening permit.
Curb Boxes
All curb boxes have been inspected and accepted by the City of Verona Water Utility prior to accepting the infrastructure improvements in the subdivision. Any damage that may occur to the curb box during construction will be the responsibility of the contractor to make the necessary repairs. Parts are available at First Supply in Madison. The curb box manufacture which the City of Verona requires is Bingham & Taylor. Cast iron buffalo type arch pattern, 3 inch shaft size, extended length 7 feet with stationary rod and guide ring and lid marked water. The curb box must be inspected prior to the issuance of the certificate of occupancy.
Installation of Water Meters
At the time of the issuance of the building permit, you will be charged a fee for construction water. This fee does not include any water used for establishing a new yard. The water meter must be installed with the transponder head on the meter prior to any lawn watering or within 20 days after the insulation inspection is completed, whichever may occur first.
If a customer requests the installation of an additional meter to receive credit for clear water not discharged into the sanitary sewer, the charge for the second meter can be obtained by calling the Public Works office at 608-845-6695. Also, it is the responsibility of the builder / owner for the cost to have the plumber connect the outside hose bibbs to the 2nd meter.
Controlling Construction Debris on Your Site
All building material waste must be disposed of by the contractor. All building material waste located on your site must be maintained in a manner that will prevent any refuse from leaving your site, including dumpsters. In the event that any construction debris from your site is deposited off site for whatever reason, it is the responsibility of the contractor for the clean-up.
Conditions of Empty Lots
The permit holder is responsible for repairing any damage to empty lots as the result of construction activities. All vacant lots and lots under construction must be free of all noxious weeds and maintained in such a manner that all grasses and weeds may not exceed 12 inches in length.
Snow and Ice Removal From Sidewalks
Within 24 hours after the cessation of any snow or ice storm, it shall be the duty of the owners or the occupants of any lot or parcel of land in the City of Verona to remove or cause to be removed the snow and ice from all sidewalks.
